Burger restaurant AJ Bombers to close after 16 years in downtown Milwaukee

Downtown Milwaukee is losing a staple burger joint later this year.

AJ Bombers, 1247 N. Water St., will close in late 2025. Benson's Restaurant Group, which owns the restaurant, announced the news on June 26.

The restaurant and bar opened in 2009. It was known for its creative takes on burgers, such as the Barrie, served with bacon and chunky peanut butter, and its tribute to the classic Marc’s Big Boy burger.

It also drew fans for its “p-nut bombs,” overhead shoots that send shell-on peanuts flying across the bar and dropped into bowls once they hit their target.
